This is a easy recipe that makes the perfect chocolate buttercream frosting. The secret is whipping the butter! Whipping the butter adds lots of air bubbles into the mixture and the result is an extra fluffy buttercream!
I use this chocolate buttercream recipe with my Sourdough Chocolate Cake. It’s super easy to whip together and it makes just the right amount of icing to ice a three layer cake!
Ingredients you’ll need for Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
To get started making this recipe, you’ll first want to gather all your ingredients first.
Here is what you’ll need:
1 1/2 cups
butter
4 cups
powdered sugar
3/4 cup
cocoa
1/4 cup
heavy whipping cream
1 Tablespoon
vanilla
a pinch of
salt

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Slice up 1 1/2 cups (three sticks) of butter. Place in mixing bowl and beat for 5-7 minutes until light in color and creamy.
Step 2: Add powdered sugar, cocoa, and pinch of salt. Blend until combined.
Step 3: Pour in heavy whipping cream and vanilla and whip for another 2-3 minutes.
